The Experience

You will be asked to disrobe to your comfort level and will be draped with a towel or sheet. Only areas being massaged are exposed

Treatment is administered on a firm/flat padded table

Oils or lotions are applied using specific techniques, targeting your areas of concern

Additional products may also be used, including warm healing stones and aromatherapy oils

Sessions range in duration from 30 to 90 minutes, with a typical full body treatment being 60 minutes. Treatments are shorter for children, elderly and the ill.

Home care suggestions may be provided, enabling you to take active part in the healing process and to continue the beneficial results of your massage between visits.

Health Benefits

Massage speeds the recovery of sore muscles by enhancing functions of the lymphatic system and removing toxins from the body. It effectively delivers nutrients to tissue/cells and breaks up adhesions from scar tissue to restore flexibility and range of motion. Treatments induce general relaxation which aids in recovery from stress and helps prevent the onset of illness and injury.

Massage has been proven to physically aid:

  • Pain & discomfort with chronic muscle tension
  • Stiff joints
  • Forms of Paralysis
  • Sciatica
  • Fractures
  • Sprains
  • Overworked muscles
  • Athletic performance
  • and more…

Qualification

Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) is a protected title used only by those who have the educational & registration requirements after passing the colleges’ certification exams. In Ontario, RMTs are governed under the Regulated Health Professions Act and the Massage Therapy Act. This mandates a regulatory body called the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO).

There is a common curriculum to follow for every school in Ontario. Depending on the school attended, the program is completed in 2-3 years. Students must complete training in massage theory, anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, hydrotherapy, and remedial exercises along with supervised clinical experiences. The CMTO conducts regular evaluations of RMTs through its Quality Assurance Program.

History

Swedish Massage: Introduced by Per Heinrik Ling from Sweden (1776-1839). He integrated anatomy, physiology, and blood circulation with traditional Eastern healing techniques. Swedish massage has been regulated since 1919, and has been accepted as a therapeutic approach to healing.

Healing hands have been used in all ancient civilizations as an effective means of promoting health and wellness.
